After sitting out the 2020 campaign, Barclay makes a welcome return to Ginetta competition for his third season with the SVG team. Scoring a maiden race win in the 2018 G40 Cup season finale, the hugely experienced racer went on to record three more successes the following campaign.
McKean meanwhile will be tackling his second consecutive season in the GT5 Challenge. A former multiple national karting champion in Kenya, the teenage talent impressed last year in his debut car-racing campaign with a trio of overall top six finishes.
Also tackling a second campaign of Ginetta racing will be another exciting young driver in Hizzey. The Sussex based racer starred in the G40 Cup last year, going on a run of seven consecutive podium finishes at one stage before ending the season in style with a maiden win at Donington Park.
Andy Johnson, team principal: “We enjoyed a great season in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge last year, so there was no doubt that we wanted to be back on the grid again. I’m delighted with the driver line-up we have and feel we can push for some real success.
“You know what you’re going to get with Alistair when he goes on track; he’s very fast, totally committed and is capable of some big results. Rory [McKean] had a brilliant first season with no previous testing under his belt, and he’s ready to build on everything he learnt last year.
“Last season allowed Owen [Hizzey] to learn all about rear-wheel drive, slick tyres and the characteristics of the Ginetta G40, and I think he’s going to shine this season in the GT5s. We can’t wait to get the season started in May.”
Packed grids and close racing makes the Ginetta GT5 Challenge a popular entry-level championship for many aspiring GT racers. In 2021, the series will compete across both British GT and British Touring Car Championship weekends, sharing a grid with the G40 Cup.
