Duggan And Townsend Enter Ginetta GT4 SuperCup With Fox Motorsport

As the Essex based team remain in the GT4 SuperCup for a third consecutive season, Duggan is preparing to race in his fourth different Ginetta championship in five years. He continues his impressive rise up the ladder after starting in the GRDC in 2018.

A transition into the G40 Cup the following year led to him finishing third in the Chairmans Cup class with nine podium finishes. He went on to excel in the GT5 Challenge Am class in 2020, with a 100% podium record guiding him to the Am class title.

Townsend meanwhile also began his racing career in the GRDC in 2017. He moved straight into the GT5 Challenge and was a competitive force in the Am class for two years, scoring five race wins as he challenged for the title in his second season.

Last year Townsend and Duggan teamed up to contest the GT Cup in a Fox Motorsport Ginetta G55, scoring 11 GTA class podium finishes including one win. They will continue to race G55’s in the GT4 SuperCup this season.

Ian Duggan: “When I started racing in GRDC, the GT4 Supercup was the end goal as it was Ginetta’s top-level GT racing car, so that’s always been in the back of my mind since 2018. The move into the GT Cup kind of took me away from that a bit, but there’s an opportunity now to get back to sprint racing in the most exciting paddock in the country.

“There’s a lot of performance in the G55 so I think we’ll be able to show well in the outright order [against the G56’s] – especially at the less power-dependent tracks – as well as trying to challenge for wins and podiums in the class.”

James Townsend: “I’m really pleased to enter the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup and to stay with Fox Motorsport, who have done so much to help me develop my racing skills over the past few years. Although the GT Cup was a fantastic experience and taught me lots about endurance racing, I missed the cut-and-thrust of sprint racing and the opportunities that affords your racecraft to develop.

“Without having a clear picture of who I’ll be up against, it’s hard to set a target right now, but my good friend Mr Duggan will be there as my Fox team-mate and I think we’ll be good yardsticks for each other.”

Paul McNeilly – Fox Motorsport Team Principal: “The Ginetta GT4 SuperCup is a series we have a very strong record in with lots of class wins, podiums and pole positions, though with the mix of the new G56 race cars with G55s, there’ll be an added dimension this year. Having James and Ian in our line-up should give us the chance to fight for wins and podiums in the class at every circuit.”

The Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup is Ginetta’s flagship championship. In 2022, the series will be contested over seven race weekends in support of the British Touring Car Championship, with a major change seeing the introduction of the Ginetta G56 GT4 as the lead car.
