The Ginetta 2022 season has proved to be the most the most captivating year of racing across all 4 championships. With a total of 80 races, 970 racing laps covering 1975 miles, 125 drivers, 74 podium finishers and 41 race winners. Celebrating a season of success, we have witnessed remarkable victories this year. We’ve crowned record-breaking champions, and welcomed Isle of Man TT legend, John McGuinness to the GTA grid.
Our longest running, most prestigious Junior series was undoubtably the most competitive seasons to date with eight different race winners. Honouring the incredible talent of our rising stars, we have crowned the youngest ever Ginetta champion, Freddie Slater.
Freddie’s name is secured in the record books after dominating all three races in the Winer series. The Rookie driver is the one to watch next season! Former Winter Series champion, Josh Rowledge claimed his first 2022 Junior class title with a victorious campaign including double victories at Knockhill, Thruxton and Silverstone. Ginetta welcomes Scholarship winner, Chase Fernandez to the grid next year after securing a full season of racing for 2023.
The Protyre GT5 challenge championship showcased some of the most exciting one-make racing in the UK with a total of 31 drivers competing this season! Competitive as ever, this season has seen ten drivers in contention for the final weekend at Donington Park. Mikey Doble claimed his maiden GT5 Pro Ginetta championship victory by just three points. GT5 AM driver, Chris White dominated the class title with nine victories, receiving the most of any AM champions for several years!
Following the championships launch in 2021, the GT Academy has been a tremendous success. The 2022 season saw the fullest ever grid of 30 identical Ginetta G56’S. With record entries, a total of 36 different drivers took to the track with a season of action-packed racing.
The appeal of the championship saw Isle of Man legend, John McGuiness behind the wheel of a GTA for his debut car racing experience at Brands Hatch. After a dominating performance all season, GTA Pro driver, Marc Warren celebrated a victorious journey up the motorsport ladder to claim his third Ginetta championship title.
The final year for the championship was truly an end of an era after a successful 12 season stint. G56 GT4 SuperCup champion, James Kellett is the second Ginetta driver in the record books this year. He’s breaking the record for the most victories in a single season! The season brought some fantastic racing with 13 winners across 4 classes.
The series has seen over 200 drivers compete over 289 races. We crowned a total of 22 champions including superior SuperCup alumni, Tom Ingram. The three-time Ginetta champion secured his first Touring Car Championship driver’s title.
2022 has surpassed expectation with remarkable results across all championships. Ginetta will continue to raise the bar next year by venturing onto exciting new territory in partnership with SRO Motorsport group. The new set up will allow all three championships to compete under one package. In addition, the GT Pro car will make its debut appearance on the grid next year It is set to become the ultimate GT performance race car on the calendar.
