Rookie Quintet Enter Ginetta GT Academy

A first group of five rookie drivers have signed up to start their motorsport journeys in the inaugural season of the Ginetta GT Academy.

The GT Academy is a new addition to Ginetta’s stable of one-make domestic championships for 2021. Giving drivers of all experience levels the opportunity to enjoy entry level GT racing, the series offers an uncompromising package of high performance racing at an affordable cost.

Following the successful format of the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club in recent years, the rookie class will see entrants benefit from an all-inclusive arrive and drive package. A first class service sees their cars prepared and run in-house by the experienced team at want2race.

The new GT Academy is proving popular for track day enthusiasts looking to transition to competitive race action. Amongst those is Darren Leung, a successful businessman from Leeds, who only started driving seven years ago and quickly established a passion for motoring.

Darren Leung: “I got in the Ginetta GTA car for a day and loved it. It’s very predictable and feels like a proper race car, at a very affordable cost. I’m a big fan of what Ginetta are doing, with a full ladder of racing and a high degree of transparency. I’m looking to learn race craft from zero so the GT Academy seems like a good fit.”

A self-professed “huge petrolhead”, Edward Acres has enjoyed track days and karting events since a young age. After postponing his racing debut for a couple of years, the award-winning Charted Architect from Nottingham can’t wait to get started with Ginetta.

Edward Acres: “I couldn’t be more excited to make my formal entry into racing in the GT Academy. The main reason for choosing the series was down to the GTA car; the drivetrain system and the aggressive set-up of the car, whilst still being forgiving for novice racers. I cannot wait to take delivery of my new car, join the Ginetta family and get some track time in ahead of the new season.”

After looking at various race series, Ravi Ramyead feels the GT Academy is the perfect fit for his motorsport bow. The Kent resident hopes this will be the start of an exciting journey up Ginetta’s ladder of championships, with aspirations to one day compete at Le Mans.

Ravi Ramyead: “I love the idea of one-make racing, with everyone competing in the same car. Plus, with all the GT Academy cars being centrally run, there’s no excuses and it’s all down to the drivers. The GTA has been built as a race car from day one, not a converted road car, and this makes it a well-balanced and enjoyable car to drive.

Jack Harwood had an introduction to Ginetta racing last season working with GT4 SuperCup race-winner Jamie Falvey. After enjoying the buzz of the paddock, the 22 year old from Lincoln has been inspired to get on track himself for the first time.

Jack Harwood: “We had a really successful season with Jamie [Falvey] and it engaged me massively. I’ve always been a huge fan of motorsport however I’ve never been in a position where I had the opportunity to race myself. The GT Academy is a perfect opportunity for me to begin and Ginetta have been super helpful with the process. I’m excited to get started.”

Completing the first group of rookie contenders for the GT Academy is Danny Dwyer. The London-based businessman currently sponsors a leading Rugby Union side with his business PHD Access, and is expanding into motorsport for the first time.

Danny Dwyer: “We have already sampled the Ginetta GTA car a few times and I felt comfortable in it instantly. We have all of the right ingredients to challenge at the front of the grid in my debut year and I can’t wait to get started.”
