A new team to the Ginetta paddock in 2020, Raceway Motorsport made an immediate impression in the G40 Cup. Amongst the drivers enjoying front-running results with them were White and Zanon, who now join them for the progression to the GT5 Challenge.
White and Zanon have followed the same path through the Ginetta ranks so far. Both enjoyed strong starts to their careers in the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club in 2019, before making the step up to the G40 Cup last year with Raceway Motorsport.
White (37, London) started in style with a podium finish in the opening race of the season, the first of four across the campaign including a best result of second at Brands Hatch. Zanon (22, Italy) meanwhile took home three pieces of silverware from an incredibly consistent campaign.
Chris White: “2020 was an exciting season of racing as a front-runner and winning multiple trophies. I am stepping up again this year and I am really excited about the season ahead. I am pleased to be partnering with Raceway Motorsport for the third season and my aim is to learn the GT5 version of the G40 and push for class race wins.”
Ignazio Zanon: “The aim this year is to be fighting at the sharp end of the grid. It will be challenging as the competition is very tough and this is just my third year in racing. However, the progression these two past years has been incredible and with the right preparation and the support from the team, I know it will be possible to achieve these goals.”
Luca Hirst, team principal: “I’m pleased that our Ginetta G40 Cup drivers from 2020 have chosen to return for 2021 with Raceway Motorsport. Only this time, moving one step up the Ginetta ladder to the very competitive GT5 Challenge. I really can’t wait to get testing underway and push for some podiums!”
Packed grids and close racing makes the Ginetta GT5 Challenge a popular entry-level championship for many aspiring GT racers. In 2021, the series will compete across both British GT and British Touring Car Championship weekends, sharing a grid with the G40 Cup.
