The experienced Hampshire-based squad will be making their GT4 SuperCup debut with multiple podium-finisher Carlito Miracco, alongside a first full season in the Juniors with James Higgins after a partial campaign together in 2020.
Previously a regular front-runner during two years in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge, Miracco stepped up to the GT4 SuperCup in 2019. The 21 year old impressed with a podium finish in only his fourth race in the series, and went on to secure four more across the season.
After finishing fifth in the final championship standings, Miracco had high hopes for a planned partnership with Preptech for the 2020 season. Unfortunately the pandemic led to him sitting out the year, but he’s now ready to return to the grid and fight for more silverware.
Carlito Miracco: “Watching on from home last year was of course not ideal, especially after all the positives that came out of our start to 2020. I was very fortunate to help with coaching James [Higgins] in 2020 and also become a Ginetta brand ambassador for the release of their upcoming GT Academy series.
“Current circumstances affected us more then we could have imagined but the chance to get out there again this year is one that I know I am lucky to have. I have the best people around me to help me achieve, the team and my family, and I really hope to make everyone proud this year. I am really excited to get out there.”
Higgins meanwhile made his car-racing debut in the Juniors last year, following an extensive testing programme with Preptech through 2019. The Surrey-based racer impressed during a three-event run and ended on a high with a breakthrough top ten finish in the Brands Hatch finale.
James Higgins: “An injury outside of motorsport and the COVID situation led to a limited 2020 season for me, so I’m ready to give it a good go this year. I really gelled with Preptech last year and I have full confidence in the team. With a good testing programme planned, I’m confident for the season ahead.”
Oliver Barnard, Team Principal: “Sadly COVID disrupted our Ginetta plans for 2020 but I am looking forward to getting back on track this season. With limited testing we made great strides with James [Higgins] in the three rounds he competed in last year, already achieving a top ten result.
“James is on a strong upward trend and we have already begun a carefully planned pre-season testing programme to maximise our potential from Round One. We still have a space available in our Junior line up and look forward to another driver pairing with James for this season.
“We are really pleased that Carlito [Miracco] wishes to carry on with us this season after what was a tough 2020 for him sat watching from home. Our 2020 partnership came about only a few weeks before the original start date but even with very little pre-season testing we showed our intent with a strong showing at media day.
“We have been working hard with Carlito to get him back on the grid this year to make sure he gets a shot at championship success, and we intend to do all we can to help him achieve that.”
The Ginetta GT4 SuperCup is Ginetta’s flagship championship. In 2021, the series will be contested over eight race weekends in support of the British Touring Car Championship.
The Ginetta Junior Championship meanwhile is the UK’s longest running and most prestigious Junior series, offering the first step on the motorsport ladder for 14-17 year old racing drivers.
