Ginetta’s brand new GT2 competitor will make its competitive racing debut in the SRO European GT2 Series this weekend.

All-new Ginetta GT2 to make competitive debut this weekend at Barcelona

The car will take to the track for the first time at the Barcelona round, from the 10th to the 11th of October. The all-new GT2 machine will be run by Classic & Modern Racing (CMR) and driven by Ginetta chairman, Lawrence Tomlinson, and his son Freddie.

This weekend’s race in Catalunya marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Ginetta. Conceived to compete under SRO GT2 regulations, the Ginetta GT2 represents the new pinnacle of the brand’s famed GT racing ladder. It has been created to align perfectly with the SRO’s series structure, catering for a wide range of driver categories from Bronze graded amateur races, aspiring Silver future stars, right through to professionals at a Platinum level.

The new GT2 makes it possible for both drivers wishing to remain within the Ginetta family and those new to the brand to take their talent even further. Entrants into one of the world’s most prestigious racing categories will have the option of choosing a thoroughbred racecar that combines extreme power with surprising drivability, giving developing drivers the comfort to feel in control and experienced professionals everything they need to win.

Developing drivers through Junior, GT Academy, GTP8 and GT4 tiers, Ginetta alumni including Lando Norris, Jamie Chadwick and Issac Hadjar have gone on to race in championships such as the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, Formula 2, IndyCar, FIA World Endurance and IMSA Sportscars.

Technical information

As with all Ginetta products, the GT2 is no track-modified road car, but a purposefully designed and built racing machine. Powered by a Ginetta-manufactured, supercharged, 6.3-litre V8, the GT2 is capable of up to 800bhp (pre-Balance of Performance adjustment) and benefits from upgrades including a billet aluminium block and billet dry sump, both also machined in-house by Ginetta engineers.

Full carbon fibre bodywork assists in keeping the GT2’s target weight down to just 1,220 Kg (subject to BOP). The all-new bodywork design produces class leading aerodynamic downforce numbers, while staggering audiences with its aggressive styling.  Meanwhile top tier components from industry leading partners include an XTrac trans axle LMP gearbox with custom ratios, Sachs triple plate clutch, Ohlins TTX40 double wishbone suspension, Alcon GT endurance brake discs and callipers, a full Motec electronic suite, and Pirelli racing slick tyres.

We’re excited to announce that our all-new GT2 car will be making its competitive debut in the SRO European GT2 series this weekend in Barcelona. This marks the start of a significant new chapter for Ginetta as a brand, taking us into new territory.

“Our GT2 – the most exciting car on the grid – opens up a world of possibilities for our drivers – who remain central to all that we do. It gives them direct access to the very best global events and series, all within the supportive, sector-leading Ginetta structure that we’ve worked tirelessly to develop and hone over decades. This is a truly significant moment for the Ginetta brand, and I can’t wait to see how the car performs this weekend.

Mike Simpson, Chief Executive of Ginetta Motorsport

Background

The launch of the GT2 comes at a time of remarkable growth for the Ginetta brand. Amid record-setting grid numbers, including the largest ever Junior contingent and a doubling of its US entry book, Ginetta’s cars have also continued to achieve new competition milestones. This was typified by the brand’s triumphant return to Le Mans earlier this year, winning the Pro/AM category of LMP3 Race Two on the morning of the legendary 24 Hours. The result was a landmark victory, the first time a Ginetta has won on the Le Mans 24 Hours circuit.

Despite such success, Ginetta continues to place drivers at the centre of its decision making. The company recently announced the standardisation of its core racing product for the next five years, giving entrants the clarity and confidence to commit to investing in motorsport. Such policies will see Ginetta continue its exciting trajectory alongside its clients and partners, further enhancing its race experiences in the UK while taking full advantage of the considerable opportunity to scale its business overseas.
