Two Newcomers Amongst Latest Ginetta GT5 Challenge Entrants

8th April 2022 • Simon Paice

Ruben Hage and Dave Sutton will make their Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge debuts this season, as 2021 front-runner Will Rochford returns to the grid.

Rochford stepped up to the GT5 Challenge last season after a year and a half in the Juniors. An impressive campaign saw him break into the top six in his debut race, with 11 top ten finishes over the campaign including a best result of fourth overall in the season finale.

Will Rochford: “I’m very happy to be competing in the GT5 Challenge for my second season. I’m working with TCR for our third year together and I can’t wait to see where this year takes us.”

Joining Rochford at TCR will be exciting young talent Ruben Hage. The Nottingham based racer [pictured] joins the Ginetta family after being a regular front-runner during three years in the Junior Saloon Car Championship, with a breakthrough win coming last season.

Ruben Hage: “After three years in the JSCC, I’m looking forward to progressing into senior racing. The opportunity to transition to rear wheel drive with a sequential gearbox, slick tyres and more power is a new experience I can’t wait to build upon.”

Sutton meanwhile enters the Ginetta paddock for the first time with his own outfit Team Avago. “Coming out of retirement” after six seasons on the sidelines, the Yorkshireman is a former British karting champion and a multiple race-winner in the Volkswagen Racing Cup.

Packed grids and close racing makes the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge a popular entry-level championship for many aspiring GT racers. In 2022, the series will compete across both British GT and British Touring Car Championship weekends.
