Swedish Ginetta GT5 Challenge Season Closes With Ramsberg Double

Jesper Ramsberg has secured the runners-up spot in the 2022 Swedish Ginetta GT5 Challenge after producing a perfect weekend in the season finale at Mantorp Park on Saturday (01 October).

Swedish Ginetta GT5 Challenge Season Closes With Ramsberg Double

Hampus Rydman wrapped up his fifth consecutive GT5 Challenge drivers’ title in the penultimate weekend at Anderstorp Raceway last month, and his absence from qualifying and race one at Mantorp Park opened the door for Ramsberg to be the star of the show.

In his Cavaleno Racing prepared Ginetta G40, Ramsberg secured pole position by an incredible margin of 1.177s. Niklas Kristiansson secured his best ever qualifying result in the championship with second ahead of Andreas Lundin.

It was Kevin Blomberg who made a lightning start to race one, storming through from sixth on the grid to lead at the end of lap one. Ramsberg dropped back to third initially, but fought back to take the victory by almost four seconds from Blomberg and Lundin.

A spin across the wet grass dropped Niklas Kristiansson out of podium contention, with Alezander Kristiansson coming home in fourth place ahead of Douglas Dahlström and the leading Senior class driver Ola Gustafsson.

Kjell Zetterström was next up in his first ever Ginetta race, finishing second of the Seniors behind the wheel of Rydman’s title-winning car. Emil Johansson, Robin Lassander and the unfortunate Niklas Kristiansson rounded out the top 10.

The second race featured an early safety car period, after which Ramsberg dominated proceedings to secure his third win of the season. Rydman was back on the grid for this one and showed his class, charging through the field from 17th on the grid to finish second overall.

Alexzander Kristiansson overtook Lassander on the final lap for third, the latter impressing as he climbed up from 10th on the grid. Peter Wiborg and Blomberg completed the top six overall, while Niklas Kristiansson won the Senior class from Gustafsson and Johan Thunholm.

The championship’s award ceremony took place that evening, with Hampus Rydman, Jesper Ramsberg and Kevin Blomberg finishing as the overall top three. Niklas Kristiansson was crowned Senior class champion ahead of Olaf Gustafsson and Kari Mäkinen, while Ramsberg and Blomberg’s efforts secured Cavaleno Racing the teams’ crown.
