SVG Motorsport Confirm Multi-Car Entry For Ginetta G40 Cup

Ginetta G40 Cup stalwarts SVG Motorsport will be back on the championship’s grid this season with five drivers set to race for them across the campaign.

The West Sussex-based team have been one of the leading teams in the G40 Cup paddock in recent seasons. After scoring four overall race victories with Alistair Barclay in 2019, they finished third in the standings last year with race-winner Owen Hizzey.

Stephen Moore is set to compete in one-make Ginetta racing for the fifth consecutive season. Since making his debut in the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club in 2017, he’s enjoyed a number of appearances in the G40 Cup and last year was a podium finisher in the overall GRDC class.

Two drivers stepping up from 2020 GRDC grid to make their G40 Cup debuts this season are Jeremy Sussex and Tony Whitney. Sussex regularly battled towards the front of the rookie class last year and finished fourth on multiple occasions, while Whitney himself also scored a best result of fourth.

Experienced Ginetta racer Andy Marshall will return to the G40 Cup for selected rounds this season, having previously been a series front-runner in 2015 and 2016. Steven Davies meanwhile is targeting a racing debut this season as the next milestone in his inspiring journey of recovery after suffering a stroke in early 2019.

Andy Johnson, team principal: We’re really excited to be back on the Ginetta G40 Cup grid this season. It’s a fantastic championship to be part of and we’re looking forward to being back in the paddock when the time comes.

“The championship is a natural progression for Jeremy [Sussex] and Tony [Whitney] and with the potential they showed last year, we know they’ll be quick once they’ve got up to speed with slick tyres. Stephen [Moore] has made that transition before and has proven to be a quick driver.

“Andy [Marshall] is likely to be one of the most experienced drivers out there and he’ll be giving maximum attack when he’s on the grid. Steve [Davies] has zero racing experience so it’ll be a big challenge for him, but he’s incredibly passionate and we look forward to guiding him up the grid.”

The Ginetta G40 Cup is an ideal platform for drivers who have recently discarded their ‘novice’ plates to learn the ropes in a packed grid full of drivers of similar ability and experience. Popular with drivers moving up the Ginetta ladder, the series shares a grid with the GT5 Challenge.
