The second half of the season begins with King (Elite Motorsport) holding a 49 point lead at the top of the standings, courtesy of a superb first four meetings in which he picked up more race wins (five) and podium finishes (eight) than anyone else on the grid.
King’s closest challenger is Will Burns (Rob Boston Racing), a six-time visitor to the podium this year. The 2016 vice-champion heads to Hampshire as one of only three drivers to have raced at the circuit in the championship before, having taken a top three hat-trick four years ago.
Tom Hibbert (Triple M Motorsport) is hot on Burns’ heels in the points after taking a race win in each of the last three weekends, while early points leader and race-winner Reece Somerfield (Elite Motorsport) is keen to fight back into title contention as he makes his return to Thruxton.
Mike Epps (Team HARD) is a regular podium finisher targeting a first race win, while the competitive Pro field also includes podium finishers Carlito Miracco (Privateer) and Simon Rudd (Rob Boston Racing), plus the fast duo of Fin Green (TCR) and Tom Barley (Team HARD).
The hotly-contested Am Class is led by Nathan Heathcote (Century Motorsport), who has won four times so far in his maiden GT4 SuperCup campaign. Darron Lewis (Team HARD) sits second in the points meanwhile as a two-time race-winner himself.
Two-time champion Colin White (CWS Motorsport) is one to watch after taking two class wins at Thruxton in 2015, and he’s in great form with three victories in the last four races. Rob Boston Racing team-mates James Kell and Dan Kirby are contenders for the race wins too.
Carl Garnett (AK Motorsport) and Jack Oliphant (Century Motorsport) have also taken home class silverware so far this season, Peter Bassill (Century Motorsport) is targeting a maiden podium, and Jason McInulty (ES Motorsport) is an exciting debutant this weekend.
