Preview: Ginetta Racing Drivers Club, Round Three, Donington Park.

Two meetings down, two to go in the 2019 Ginetta Racing Drivers Club and this grid of novice racers are ready to put on a show this weekend at Donington Park..

The Ginetta Racing Drivers Club (GRDC) is an all-inclusive package designed for drivers who are brand new to circuit racing, with every driver having the same level of track experience. The GRDC offers trackdays, ARDS tests, a sprint challenge and eight close, competitive races.

A diverse range of entrants have formed on the 2019 grid and they have so far enjoyed two fantastic weekends of racing. Competing in identical road-legal Ginetta G40’s, they’ve produced four close-fought races and their fair share of thrilling wheel-to-wheel action.

The season started at Snetterton in May and it was Mark Sansom who enjoyed a dream start to proceedings with a fantastic double victory. He followed that up with a pair of second place finishes two weeks’ ago at Silverstone and is aiming for more silverware this weekend.

The star of the show at Silverstone however was Michael Kidson. Entering the series as the latest winner of the want2race scholarship, the London based driver enjoyed a breakthrough weekend as he converted a double pole position into a sensational pair of dominant race wins.

Two drivers who have shown the pace and potential to take race victories has been Craig Cornick and Chris Threadgill. Both drivers have finished on the podium three times so far, while Cornick took the first pole position of the campaign.

A number of drivers through the field hold aspirations for maiden podium finishes and the battle for silverware this weekend is sure to be fiercely contested. One of those hoping to be in contention is Chris White, who kicked off the campaign with a superb fourth place result at Snetterton.

Harry Mangion and Harry Ormerod each notched up a fourth place finish last time out to continue impressive starts to their racing careers, while Toby Trice announced himself as one to watch after securing a fifth place double at Silverstone.

Italian student Ignazio Zanon burst onto the scene by qualifying second on the grid at Snetterton and has produced some competitive race runs, while the ultra-consistent Mark Lee has a 100% record of finishing in the top ten and will be determined to progress up the order.

The strength in depth in the championship sees two other drivers having recorded top ten finishes so far in Neil Wallace and Paulo Scripo, while Nigel Fox has a best finish of 11th under his belt and will be keen to tick off the next milestone this weekend.
