Preview: Ginetta Racing Drivers Club, Round Five, Snetterton

With the destination of the 2020 titles having already been decided, it’s all about ending the season on a high this weekend for the stars of the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club.

The two provisional champions were crowned a fortnight ago at Donington Park, with Stephen Docker emerging victorious in the overall class courtesy of 12 straight podium finishes. Marc Warren meanwhile secured the rookie honours with a 100% top three success rate of his own.

While Docker has taken the decision to sit out the final three races of the season this weekend, Warren heads to Snetterton aiming to extend his podium record and cap off his title campaign in style. He’ll face stiff competition though, with a number of quick drivers lining up in the rookie class.

Rupert Laslett has been one of his closest challengers throughout the campaign, accruing a brilliant tally of ten podium finishes. The Kent racer enjoyed a breakthrough class win last time out at Donington Park, a feat he’ll hope to replicate this weekend.

Targeting a maiden victory of his own will be Thomas Holland. The student racer has been hugely impressive this season, being the only driver other than Warren to score a class pole position and making four visits to the podium across the campaign.

Suffolk based Peter Dilnot heads to his local circuit as a clear podium contender, having picked up a sole top three result earlier this season at Brands Hatch. Guillaume Le Meur has finished fourth on three occasions meanwhile, so will be determined to end with some silverware.

Tony Whitney and the returning Jeremy Sussex will hold similar aspirations, with both enjoying seasons’ best results of fourth too. Joe Butterworth secured a top six breakthrough last time out, while the ever-improving John Wyatt is on a run of six consecutive top ten finishes.

In the overall GRDC class, Andrew Cohen-Wray has teamed up with Assetto Motorsport as he steps up from the rookie class for the final rounds ahead of a planned campaign together in 2021. He’ll be joined at the team by championship newcomer Jay Morton.
