Preview: 2023 Ginetta GT Academy – Silverstone

If an exhilarating season opener at Oulton Park last month was anything to go by, the 2023 Ginetta GT Academy is sure to serve up plenty of action this weekend at Silverstone.

Nick White and Ravi Ramyead shared the opening three wins of the season. Ramyead (Century Motorsport) took a double win on his graduation as rookie champion to the headline GTA class. White (Raceway Motorsport) secured his maiden victory in the championship and holds the early points lead.

Century Motorsport had three drivers stand on the podium across the opening weekend. Ed Acres kicked off his third season in the championship with second place in race one. Thomas Shelley came home third in the Oulton closer.

Ramyead and Shelley are two of four drivers that have stepped up from the 2022 rookie class. The others are Jon Kearney (Raceway Motorsport) and Marc Elman (SVG Motorsport). Both are capable of challenging for GTA silverware this weekend.

One to watch at Silverstone will be Mackenzie Walker (Assetto Racing). He is a multiple podium finisher last year who is ready to bounce back from torrid luck at Oulton Park. Experienced Ginetta racer Phil McGarty (Alastair Rushforth Motorsport) is sure to make progress as he adapts to the new car. Paul Livesey (Xentek Motorsport), father to Ginetta Junior driver Felix Livesey, is the latest entry to round up the GTA class.

In the dedicated rookie class for drivers starting their motorsport careers, Matt Shaw established himself as the driver to beat with two wins and a best result of fourth overall. Hoping to challenge him will be two newcomers to the grid, Ben and Harry Cooke.

An exciting Oulton weekend for the Tomlinson family saw three sisters make their racing debut. Amy led the way with three podiums, as Emma also took a trophy home and Lucy came close. Charlotte Lowe completes a talented rookie entry.
