Preview: 2022 Ginetta Junior Winter Series – Brands Hatch

Brands Hatch hosts the end-of-season mini-series for the sixth time running. The traditional format for the event sees one qualifying and two races each day. A diverse entry list features a number of new talents, as well as many drivers who starred in the 2022 Ginetta Junior Winter Series.

Luke Watts is the highest placed returning driver from the 2022 standings. He secured a top ten points finish with reigning Winter Series champions R Racing. He’ll come to Kent confident of a strong weekend, having gone quickest of all in qualifying on the Indy circuit back in May.

Mckenzie Douglass (Elite Motorsport) also impressed that weekend with his first of nine rookie class podium finishes through the campaign. Luca Hopkinson (R Racing) made his one and only visit to the rookie podium at the same event.

2022 Ginetta Junior scholar Alisha Palmowski (Preptech UK) picked up three rookie rostrums across an impressive first season. Former World and European karting champion Freddie Slater (R Racing) is one to watch too. He has taken five class podiums from a nine-race spell late in the season.

Four other drivers are back on the grid having contested the final two rounds of the main campaign; Mikey Porter (R Racing), Thomas Spragg (Preptech UK), Finn Harrison (Assetto Motorsport) and 2022 Ford Fiesta Junior champion Sid Smith (Fox Motorsport).

The 2023 Ginetta Junior Scholarship took place last month. A number of the leading contenders are coming to race this weekend, including the winner Chase Fernandez (Assetto Motorsport). He secured a fully-funded season in the championship next year.

Seven-time karting champion Dan Munro (Xentek Motorsport) and Charlie Hart (Elite Motorsport) were close to glory having reached the final four shootout, while also finalists were Freddie Allum (Assetto Motorsport), Tudor Nechita (Xentek Motorsport) and Brea Angliss (Alastair Rushforth Motorsport), sister of GT4 SuperCup racer Blake.

Completing the entry list this weekend are three other drivers making their Ginetta Junior debuts; Reza Seewooruthun (R Racing), Harry Moss (Fox Motorsport) and Felix Livesey (Xentek Motorsport).
