The GT Academy offers drivers of all ages and experience levels the opportunity to try entry level GT racing in identical Ginetta G56 GTA’s. It runs to a two-class format, GTA and rookie – the latter incorporating an all-inclusive arrive and drive package for racing newcomers.
Warren and Ramyead have been the class of the field in the GTA and Rookie classes respectively this year. Each scored seven class wins from the seven races so far. Their level of dominance is further highlighted by the fact no-one else in their classes have even led a lap this year.
Thomas Holland is making it a Raceway Motorsport one-two in the GTA standings at the moment, having picked up three podium finishes. Richard Sykes (W2R) sits third in the points, having impressively been the only driver other than Warren to finish every race so far inside the top ten.
Mackenzie Walker (Assetto Motorsport) has picked up a trophy at each of the opening three events. Nick White (MRM) and Leo Karavasili (Breakell Racing) have a couple of podiums to their name. The latter also impressed with a trio of pole positions.
Edward Acres, a podium finisher in the Silverstone opener, makes a welcome return to the grid after missing the last rounds due to a broken wrist. Fellow top six finishers Tom Hartley Jnr and Michael Johnston join him in a competitive entry from multiple Ginetta champions Century Motorsport.
Multiple drivers on the grid head into the final six races of the season targeting a first podium finish of the season, including 2021 race-winner Martin Wills, his Assetto Motorsport team-mate Julian Wantling and another regular front-runner in Xentek Motorsport’s Danny Dwyer.
Reigning champions SVG Motorsport are ones to watch with 2021 podium finishers Lee Frost and Roy Alderslade. Maurizio Sciglio (Datum Motorsport) and Sebastien Dubois (Motus One) will come into the weekend in high spirits after scoring maiden top ten finishes last time out at Oulton Park.
The competitive GTA grid also features Assetto Motorsport duo Mike West and Robin Grimwood, Marco Anastasi (Datum Motorsport), Mark Steel (Toro Verde GT), Lee Goldsmith (Century Motorsport), Steve Williams (MRM) and SF Racing’s Gary Wager and Shawn Fleming.
In the championship’s rookie class, in which all cars are prepared by want2race. Jon Kearney leads the chasing pack to Ramyead with five class podiums to his name. Dan Rathbone, Thomas Shelley and Marc Elman have also picked up silverware in their maiden racing campaigns.
