Rising stars Josh Steed and John Bennett have shared the early season success as the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge heads to Silverstone for its third meeting of the year.

Preview: 2021 Ginetta GT5 Challenge Pro – Silverstone

Steed (Xentek Motorsport) sits at the top of the championship standings thanks to a great run of three pole positions and three race wins from the opening two events. Bennett (Elite Motorsport) has matched his tally of four podium finishes, including taking the other two victories on offer.

Splitting them in the points however is series rookie William Aspin (Elite Motorsport), who has impressively finished on the podium in every race so far. David Ellesley (Race Car Consultants) and Connor Grady (Alastair Rushforth Motorsport) have also scored the overall top three results.

Knocking firmly on the podium door with best finishes of fourth place so far are two newcomers to the championship this year, Mikey Doble (Xentek Motorsport) and Haytham Qarajouli (TCR). Conner Garlick (Xentek Motorsport) was a podium finisher last season meanwhile.

Another leading contender in 2020 was Magnus Kriklywi (Race Car Consultants), who has been out of luck so far this season. Expect him to be in the front-running battles this weekend alongside top five finishers Will Rochford (TCR) and Harley Haughton (Elite Motorsport).

Ignazio Zanon (Raceway Motorsport) and Owen Hizzey (SVG Motorsport) have both shown potential for top results this year as they step up from the Ginetta G40 Cup. Nat Hodgkiss (Race Car Consultants) has been quick too, likewise teenage talent Will Orton (Alastair Rushforth Motorsport).

Three drivers are set to make their championship debuts meanwhile; 2013 GT5 Challenge Sweden champion Morten Dons (Breakell Racing), former rallycross champion Aidan Hills (Hills Motorsport) and Ben McKenna (Xentek Motorsport), brother of 2019 champion Scott.
