The Stockport based driver joins the grid with a successful karting career behind him. Crowned the MBKC champion in 2014, he went on to enjoy a standout campaign in 2019 as he secured the MiniMax Super One title and finished as vice-champion in the English Open.
After running as the front in the British Junior Rotax Championship last year, the 16 year old got his first experience with Ginetta when he entered the Junior Scholarship in December and impressed to reach the final day of the competition.
Harley Haughton: “Consistent progress towards the front of the grid and development into 2022 is my main focus this year. I was recommended to Elite by Adam Smalley and a test with them went well. I was very impressed with the Ginetta and the team, and I’m excited to get started.”
Haughton is Elite Motorsport’s fifth confirmed driver for the GT5 Challenge this year, joining fellow series debutants William Aspin and Harry Mangion, plus returning talents John Bennett and Karim Sekkat, with the Norfolk based squad.
Eddie Ives, team principal: “I’m really pleased to finalise a deal with Harley [Haughton]. He has very limited experience in cars but his rate of development in initial testing has been impressive. I look forward to seeing him continue to improve throughout the season and hopefully run towards the front later in the year.”
Packed grids and close racing makes the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge a popular entry-level championship for many aspiring GT racers. In 2021, the series will compete across both British GT and British Touring Car Championship weekends, sharing a grid with the G40 Cup.
