Ginetta GT Championship Recognised as BRDC Membership Qualifying Platform

Ginetta has announced that the top four finishers in the 2026 Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT Championship will have their season recognised by the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) as a qualifying campaign towards BRDC membership.

The recognition means drivers finishing inside the championship’s top four positions will be able to use their Ginetta GT season as part of the competitive record required when applying for membership of the prestigious organisation, widely regarded as one of the most respected institutions in world motorsport.

The Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT Championship will be included within the BRDC’s matrix of qualifying championships for 2026. Drivers who finish in the top four of the overall championship standings, who are British or Commonwealth citizens, will be able to use that season as one of the three seasons required to fulfil the participation element of the BRDC’s membership criteria.

The decision to recognise the GT Championship reflects the competitive standard of the series and the calibre of drivers competing in the high performance GT category.

Mike Simpson, CEO of Ginetta and himself a BRDC member, welcomed the recognition.

“The BRDC is one of the most respected institutions in world motorsport. So, to see the Ginetta GT Championship recognised as part of the pathway towards membership is incredibly rewarding for everyone involved with the series.

“The GTP8 is a serious racing car and the championship attracts highly capable drivers looking for a genuine competitive challenge. For the top four drivers in the championship to now be able to count their season towards BRDC qualification adds another important level of prestige to the series.

“For anyone considering stepping into a GTP8, it reinforces the calibre of competition and the opportunity the championship represents.”

Luke Evans, Membership Manager for the BRDC added:

“Within the BRDC’s matrix of qualifying championships, there are categories ranging from high-level domestic series all the way up to Formula One. The Club is delighted to add the Ginetta GT Championship to the qualifying matrix for the 2026 season.

“With the championship offering strong competition as well as opportunities for drivers to develop their racecraft, we will hope to see talented drivers graduating from the series well-enough equipped to succeed wherever their careers take them next, hopefully enabling them to achieve the additional seasons and results required for BRDC membership.”

Designed, engineered and built entirely in-house at Ginetta’s Yorkshire headquarters, the Ginetta GTP8 is a purpose-built race car designed to deliver a pure and demanding driving experience for ambitious competitors.  The championship has quickly established itself as a compelling platform for drivers seeking high performance GT competition in a professionally run racing environment.

With BRDC recognition now added to the championship’s credentials, the battle for the 2026 title and a place inside the top four carries even greater significance.
