Reigning Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup champions Elite Motorsport will retain Tom Emson and Josh Rattican for the 2022 season.

The Norfolk based team will be setting their sights on a third GT4 SuperCup drivers’ title in four seasons, following successes with Harry King (2019) and Adam Smalley (2021).

Rattican produced a stunning maiden season in the championship after two years in Ginetta Juniors. Storming out of the blocks with a race win on his debut weekend at Snetterton, the 18 year old then went on a run of six second places in seven races in mid-season.

The Sheffield based racer, who had finished second overall in the 2020 Juniors, went on to add victories at Croft and Donington Park in the latter stages to ultimately secure runners up honours. He ended proceedings with 17 podium finishes, more than anyone else.

Josh Rattican: “2021 was my first year in a senior class and as the year progressed, my form improved as I gained more experience. Finishing second last season was a great achievement and I intend to build on that and fight for this year’s title.

“Elite is a multiple championship winning team that has played a big part in my driver development. I have a great relationship and connection with Ed and his team and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else right now.”

Emson meanwhile ended his 2021 campaign on a high with a long-awaited maiden victory in the season finale. That capped off an impressive first year in the Pro class, in which he recorded six podium finishes and a top six championship finish.

The 19 year old, who was previously a race-winner in the Juniors, made his GT4 SuperCup debut with a partial campaign in 2019. In his first full season the following year, he excelled in the Pro Am class to record 15 podiums in the 16 races he contested.

Tom Emson: “Last year went well but feel I was a little unlucky nearing the end of the season. I would have liked to have finished higher in the championship, especially with how the season started, although I did get many podiums and a win at the end.

“My aim this season is to get as many podiums as possible and finish in the top three of the overall championship. The bond which has been formed with Elite over the past five years has seen me grow and improve both as a driver and in confidence with the decisions I have made.”

Since making their GT4 SuperCup debut in 2018, Elite have been a consistent presence at the front of the grid. Alongside their two drivers’ title wins, they won the teams’ crown for the first time last year and have recorded a total of 30 overall wins and 79 podium finishes.

Eddie Ives, Elite Motorsport Team Owner: “It’s fantastic to retain Tom and Josh and I’m confident both with be vying for this year’s driver’s title, which will hopefully bring Elite Motorsport a second consecutive GT4 SuperCup teams’ title.

“Josh had a phenomenal first GT4 SuperCup season with us last year. 17 podiums and runner-up to Adam in the final standings was an amazing achievement. I’m certain that Tom’s maiden victory in the very last race of 2021 will be the springboard for future success.

“With those kind of results, combined with the fact that Josh and Tom had just one and two retirements respectively last season, they’re both going to be challenging for the title.”

The Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup is Ginetta’s flagship championship. In 2022, the series will be contested over seven race weekends in support of the British Touring Car Championship, with a major change seeing the introduction of the Ginetta G56 GT4 as the lead car.
