Assetto Motorsport Trio Step Up To Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup

Ginetta G40 Cup graduates Mike West, Martin Wills and Lee Goldsmith will contest the Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup this season with Assetto Motorsport.

It marks an exciting move for all three drivers as they progress up Ginetta’s ladder of championships onto the BTCC support package. West and Goldsmith both made their racing debuts in the GRDC before stepping up to the G40 Cup, where they were joined last year by Wills.

West was a consistent podium finisher in the Chairmans Cup class over the last two years, while Wills starred last season with 11 visits to the class rostrum on his way to second in the final standings. Goldsmith meanwhile picked up some strong top ten finishes through 2019.

While Wills and Goldsmith will be racing a Ginetta G55 for the first time in the season opener at Donington Park (28/29 March), West got a taste of the GT4 SuperCup last year with a one-off outing at Silverstone, taking a best finish of fifth in the Am class.

The trio completes an exciting four-car line-up of Ginetta G40 Cup graduates for Assetto Motorsport in their first full season of Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup action, with 2019 champion Chris Salkeld previously announced to be stepping up alongside them.

Jim Edwards, team manager: “Having spent most of my racing career within the TOCA paddock, it only seems fitting that I, along with my son in law Simon Traves, will be returning full time to the BTCC paddock during 2020 with our family team.

“We’re excited to be forming one of the largest line-ups within the GT4 SuperCup paddock, and we’re extremely proud to have retained our drivers as they move up the Ginetta ladder this season, as we pride ourselves on providing an enjoyable team environment and front-running cars.

“All three drivers have great potential for 2020 and each have the talent to be challenging for class podium finishes this season. As a team, we are under no illusions of the level of competition that exists within this championship, but we are relishing the challenge ahead.”

The Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup is Ginetta’s flagship championship, with a three-class structure incorporating Pro, Pro Am and Am categories. In 2020, the series will be contested over eight race weekends in support of the British Touring Car Championship.
