Sherwood, who turns 15 years old on Sunday (2nd May), will be making his car-racing debut this season. In the process, he will follow in the footsteps of his father, the current Porsche Carrera Cup GB Am class champion Justin Sherwood.<\/p>\n
The Leicestershire-based teenager graduates to car-racing after four years in karting, in which he scored numerous top ten finishes in National events. Sherwood then contested the Ginetta Junior Scholarship in December and reached the final day of competition.\n <\/p>\n
Jack Sherwood: \u201cI\u2019m delighted to be joining Elite Motorsport and to be on the Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship grid for my first season of racing cars. I wasn\u2019t expecting to race this year in cars but this is a fantastic opportunity.<\/em>\n <\/p>\n \u201cTo race with Elite was something I couldn\u2019t refuse. I had my first test in a car with them and immediately felt very comfortable within the team. Pre-season testing has been very limited, so I\u2019m realistic for this season. My aim is to learn and progress throughout the year, and to produce the best results I can.\u201d<\/em>\n <\/p>\n Sherwood joins fellow rookies Josh Rowledge, Joe Warhurst and Max Hall, plus second year racers Seb Hopkins and Will Jenkins, at Elite. The Norfolk team are targeting a fifth consecutive drivers\u2019 title, having won the crown last year with Tom Lebbon.\n <\/p>\n Eddie Ives, team owner: \u201cOne of the elements I love about running a team is that we can use the masses of experience Elite can offer to a young driver starting off in car racing and this applies to Jack.<\/em>\n <\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s only done a handful of tests with us, coming from karting, but he\u2019s eager to learn, has a good attitude and is realistic in what can be achieved this season. I\u2019m looking forward to working with him in Juniors.\u201d<\/em>\n <\/p>\n Elite Motorsport have also confirmed that Peter Dilnot has joined the team for the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge this year. The Suffolk racer moves up to the G40 Cup category after scoring regular top six finishes in the rookie class of the GRDC last season.\n <\/p>\n The Ginetta Junior Championship is the UK\u2019s longest running and most prestigious Junior series, offering the first step on the motorsport ladder for 14-17 year old racing drivers as they compete on the support bill for the British Touring Car Championship.\n <\/p>\n Packed grids and close racing makes the Ginetta GT5 Challenge a popular entry-level championship for many aspiring GT racers.
