31st January 2019 • Simon Paice

SVG Motorsport will run four cars in the 2019 Ginetta G40 Cup alongside an entry into the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club.

Run by Andy Johnson, who has been involved in motorsport for over thirty years, SVG Motorsport have been established front-runners in one-make Ginetta competition since joining the ranks in 2016, with experience across the GT5 Challenge, G40 Cup and GRDC.

Alistair Barclay will compete with the team in the G40 Cup for a second consecutive season. He will be determined to challenge for title glory after ending his 2018 campaign in spectacular style with a podium hat-trick including a breakthrough race win at Donington Park.

Another driver returning to the series is Robert Pugsley, who is entering his second season in the G40 Cup after making his racing debut in GRDC in 2017. The London based racer impressed with a handful of top six finishes last year.

Andy Marshall enters the championship meanwhile with a wealth of experience in Ginetta racing under his belt. The 44 year old made his debut in the GT5 Challenge in 2013 and has made appearances in the series for a number of years.

16 year old Charlotte Birch meanwhile will likely be one of the youngest drivers on the grid this year as she makes her Ginetta racing debut, having learnt the ropes and taken podium finishes in the Junior Saloon Car Championship over the past two seasons.

SVG Motorsport’s entry into the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club comes with Neil Wallace. The Scotsman, who works in private equity, will make his car-racing debut with previous trackday experience in Porsche and Caterham machinery.

Andy Johnson, team owner: “We’re excited to be back in Ginetta racing for another year. Racing on a fantastic package alongside British GT, they are incredibly well run one-make championships and it is a really fun and welcoming package that you want to be involved in.

“We’re really happy with our driver line-up for 2019. Alistair [Barclay] was a front-runner towards the end of last year and I’m sure he will be again this season, while Robert [Pugsley] is a strong candidate for success as well in his second year in the series.

“Andrew [Marshall] has a lot of experience in Ginetta racing which should serve him well, while Charlotte [Birch] is an exciting talent and will learn from her experienced team-mates. From the time we’ve spent with Neil [Wallace] so far, he looks right on the GRDC pace.

“Overall it’s looking very promising this season. We want to come away with more podium finishes than last year, that’s always a good ambition to start with, and hopefully we can be up there challenging for the title as well.”

The Ginetta G40 Cup is an ideal platform for drivers who have recently discarded their ‘novice’ plates to learn the ropes in a packed grid full of drivers of similar ability and experience. Popular with graduates from the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club (GRDC), the series races in support of British GT.

The Ginetta Racing Drivers Club (GRDC) meanwhile is an all-inclusive package designed for drivers who are brand new to the sport, with every driver having the same level of track experience. The GRDC offers trackdays, ARDS tests, a sprint challenge and eight close, competitive races.
