Lawrence Tomlinson Takes V de V Title In G57-P2

16th November 2016 • Ginetta Cars

Ginetta Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson claimed the 2016 V de V PFV Class honours at Estoril last weekend (4 – 6 November) as another overall race win – his fifth of the year – saw Tomlinson power his Ginetta G57-P2 to victory.

With eight Ginetta G57-P2’s in attendance, it was the #57 car of Tomlinson/Simpson/Burke which dominated the session, taking pole position by a comfortable margin over the Graff Racing Ligier JSP3 behind. In the race, the polesitters controlled the action from the moment the lights went out. With the rain coming down, it was the Ginettas which looked most at east in the tricky conditions. The #57 car maintained its advantage and built up a margin over the chasing pack over the first hours, but as the rain ended, a close battle for the victory emerged. Still, the #57 Ginetta’s domination never really seemed disputable during this race and the victory for the #57 Ginetta allowed Tomlinson/Simpson/Burke to win the VdeV Championship in the PFV category. Ewan Baldry, Ginetta Technical Director; “2016 was the development year for G57-P2, so it is nice to have won many of the races outright and the championship in our first year with the car. We have learnt loads by putting a good number of these new cars through a hard season of 4 and 6 hour endurance races. “We have a few bits and bobs to address in order to make them bomb proof which will be done over the winter in time for a stellar 2017. Well done to everyone involved, here at Estoril, back at the factory and of course the teams who have joined our journey through the 2016 season.” Elsewhere, Nova Race’s hard work also paid off, earning themselves a second-place finish with car #75 entrusted to drivers Salvador, Fernandes and Wilson, in front of newcomer British team Century Motorsport, in charge of Ginetta G57 #99 handled by Green, Breukers and McKay.
