Ginetta Junior Summer Camp Planned For School Holidays

10th July 2018 • Ruth Harrison-Davies

“Things to do with the kids during the summer holidays” is probably going to be Google’s biggest hit over the next month. The six-week holidays might be the best time of the year for under 16’s, but for parents it can mean finding what seems like a never-ending string of entertainment. Enter the Ginetta Junior Summer Camp; designed to teach teenagers what it takes to become a professional racing driver.

The team at Ginetta HQ will be hosting a two-day summer camp for aspiring racing drivers. Taking place at our very own test track Blyton Park, we will keep young petrol heads occupied from 28 to 29 August as they sit alongside our professional racing drivers and learn what it takes to carve a career in motorsport.

Now that our two Factory Racing Drivers Mike Simpson and Charlie Robertson are back from their debut at the Le Mans 24 Hours, we put them to work designing our Junior Summer Camp. This educational programme is open to drivers of all ability, aged between 13 and 17.

Charlie Robertson said;“This two-day event is perfectly designed for any young drivers who are looking to become a professional racing driver. I started my car racing career with Ginetta when I was 14 and since then, we have won three championships together, and I’ve just come back from my very first Le Mans 24 Hours. It’s been such an incredible journey and I have learnt so much along the way. With that in mind, I’ve designed this programme based upon what my 13-year-old self would want to know.”

Ambitious racers will enjoy one-to-one tuition behind the wheel of a Ginetta G40 Junior car throughout both days, with each session tailored to their own individual needs. When not on the track, drivers will sit with their driver coach to analyse V-Box data, which will be compared to a lap set by one of our professional drivers in the same car.

In order to deliver a holistic training camp, fitness and media sessions are also included. Ginetta’s Personal Trainer, Richard Chessman will be on hand to assess each drivers’ current fitness levels and provide a tailored fitness plan to prepare for the rigours of professional motorsport.

A media training session will also be included and will cover everything from how to approach sponsors, to how you should (and shouldn’t behave in a live TV interview). We’ll also include a few pointers on the best ways to use social media.
