Am Champion Nick Halstead Goes Pro For 2019 Ginetta GT5 Challenge

4th April 2019 • Simon Paice

Reigning Ginetta GT5 Challenge Am Champion Nick Halstead will step up to the Pro category this season with Fox Motorsport.

Halstead will contest his third season in the championship following a superb 2018 campaign, in which three class victories and 10 podium finishes ensured he secured the Am title at the final race of the season at Donington Park.

The Hampshire racer will compete this year with support from Infosum and ThoughtRiver, and he completes a four car entry for Fox Motorsport alongside fellow Pro class entrant Gordie Mutch and Am contenders James Townsend and Matt Konczos.

Nick Halstead: “The 2018 season was fantastic as I achieved my aim of winning the Ginetta GT5 Am title and consistently qualified and finished higher up the order overall than I had done in my first season, and against a higher-quality line-up of drivers and teams.

“By the end of the year I was consistently finishing in among the Pro drivers and this has only fuelled my hunger to take the next step with my driving and aim for even better results in 2019.”

Paul McNeilly, team principal: “Last season was huge for us as a team in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge and for Nick, who many people forget was only in his second season of racing, but impressed a lot of people with his development as he won the Am title.”

Packed grids and close racing makes the Ginetta GT5 Challenge a popular entry-level championship for many aspiring GT racers. In 2019, the series will join the British GT Championship at four meetings and make two outings on the British Touring Car Championship support bill.
