The original, Le Mans 24 Hour-winning, Team LNT are set to be reunited next month, as Ginetta announce their entry into the Britcar 24 Hour race at Silverstone on 22/23 September with their 4.35 litre, V8 engined Ginetta G55 GT3 car.
Having already brought home a win in the 2006 Le Mans 24h GT2 class as well as the Britcar 24 hour in that same year, Team LNT – which includes Ginetta Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson, triple Le Mans winner Tom Kimber-Smith and former Ginetta MD and Le Mans winner, Richard Dean - will be reunited for the only 24hr race for GT and Saloon cars in the UK, with the addition of official Ginetta factory driver and former British Karting Champion Mike Simpson.
Tomlinson and Simpson have already enjoyed glory in both of the Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship races they have entered this year – storming ahead of rival marques to take class and overall win at both the Donington Park and Snetterton rounds.
Not only that, but Team LNT also won the 2010 Britcar 24 Hour Class 4 honours in their Ginetta G40 – which Team LNT drove from their Leeds base to Silverstone, where they qualified, raced, won and drove home again. Understandably, Tomlinson and Team LNT are looking for a repeat of that success this time around.
Tomlinson said;“It’s great to have the original Team LNT back on the grid for the Britcar 24 hour race. We’ve already shown we’re a 24-hour winning race team, and we’re not going there to finish second. We’ve beaten the Moslers this season. We tend to be lighter, and with that comes more agility. That and the aero gives us an advantage, and we’re very good on tyres.”
Simpson added;“It is fantastic to be part of Team LNT and Ginetta during this exciting development phase of the G55 GT3 lifecycle. The G55 GT3 will be an affordable, outright winner in many championships and I am pleased to be showcasing our car in the Britcar 24 Hour race. Ginetta enjoyed success in the Britcar 24 hour two years ago in our G40, so there’s no reason we can’t do it again.”
The Ginetta G55 GT3 was a new homologated car in 2011 which underwent an intense development programme throughout its first year of competition. Ginetta manufacture their 4.35 V8 powerplant in house, which is paired with the aggressive-looking but somewhat efficient aerodynamic package, which results in unquestionably explosive performance.
Ginetta will also have a healthy presence away from the race as their two road cars – the G40R and G60 - are also set to make an appearance at Silverstone; Ginetta have loaned one of their 3.7 litre V6 engined Ginetta G60’s for the weekend’s Safety Car, whilst their G40R ‘race car for the road’ will be on display in the paddock.
With the exceptional speed of the Ginetta G55 GT3 ready to be unleashed at Silverstone, plus Team LNT’s impressive record competing at some of the World’s biggest long- distance races such as Petit Le Mans in Atlanta to Sebring Florida, Le Mans 24 hours and Silverstone 24 hours - it really is a rival for any marque in the GT3 category.
