ITALIAN GINETTA G50 CUP: SOME NEW DRIVERS READY TO FIGHT

The Italian Ginetta G50 Cup crosses the border into Austria for the fourth round of 2012 season; the first one promoted by Nova Race in Italy.

After the outing at Franciacorta, Luigi Emiliani and Matteo Cressoni continue their ride at the top, although the Nova Race duo will be split at Zeltweg – with Emiliani starting the race alongside the first new entry, Stefano Pozzi, whilst Cressoni will share the car with Luis Scarpaccio.

Giuliano Bottazzi’s team will also be at Red Bull Ring with Tiziano Frazza and Enrico Garbelli - who won Race two at Franciacorta – and a second G50 piloted by Luca Magnoni and Roberto Rayneri.

The absence of Francesco Lorio, who is currently second in championship standings with Stefano Stefanelli, could be important for his racing season: the Mihc Sport driver will not present in Austria so it will be Luca Lorenzini alongside the Tuscany driver in the bid for points.

Lorio’s absence could turn out to be a positive for Checco Malavasi: the Composit Motorsport driver is looking to close the gap towards the leaders (32 points) at the weekend, but he won’t be the only one, as Michele Merendino and Antonio Pellitteri are ready to fight for a double wins in Austria. The second red car prepared by Emilian team will be driven by Mark Speakerwas and Massimo Argonauta, another new entry in the championship.

The Austrian weekend will also uncover some key news regarding the race format as the series will share the track with Italian GT Championship and its race cars. Also, Superpole has been replaced by two qualifying sessions.

The racing weekend will start on Friday 3rd August with two free practice sessions scheduled at 11.05 and 16.15. Both qualifying sessions will be held on Saturday 4thAugust (8.55 and 12.15) and Race one, that will see the green lights on at 17.10. Race two will start on Sunday 5th August at 11.50 and both races (48’ + 1 lap long each) will broadcasted live in Italy on SportItalia 2.
