VIDEO : Ginetta G40R - Drive to circuit. Win race. Drive home.
Ginetta proved their might at Cadwell Park this weekend as their G40R ‘race car for the road’ took a clear win in the Club MSV Team Trophy, making light work of rival marques around the Lincolnshire circuit.
The car was driven from the Ginetta factory in Leeds to Cadwell Park where it qualified, raced and won on the same set of tyres before being driven back to Team LNT head office yesterday evening.
Piloted by Ginetta factory driver and 2011 Formula KGP champion Michael Simpson and former Formula Ford frontrunner Ian Parsons, the car topped the timing sheets in all preliminary sessions, before taking the overall win with 21 seconds to spare.
The dominance of the two litre G40R was proven not just in taking the Class B win, but also the overall win against the likes of Lotus, BMW and Porsche over the course of the one hour endurance race.
Mike Simpson said; “Topping the timing sheets across practice, qualifying and the overall race highlights G40R’s ability to be used as a daily drive, as well as a race-winning machine. To turn up and race in a new championship and circuit and achieve this result just goes to show that Ginetta and the G40R are not one to be overlooked.”
Sharing a number of characteristics with its G40 racing sibling, the G40R represents the culmination of Ginetta’s racing pedigree translated perfectly into a road car, and Cadwell Park provided the prime opportunity for the Yorkshire manufacturer to show that not only do they make world-beating race cars, but at the heart of this road car, the ethos of speed and track-suitability remains intact.
The G40R is currently eligible to race within the Total Quartz Ginetta GT5 Challenge, MSV Team Trophy and MSV Track Day Trophy, and gives current and future road car owners a cost effective, competitive alternative to track days.
Striking the perfect balance between race car performance and road car usability, the G40R is built around the same FIA approved chassis and lightweight composite body, as used in the highly successful G40 race cars, the G40R is also equipped with a stylish lightweight interior.
