As the Total Quartz Ginetta GT5 Challenge reaches the halfway point this season, the championship takes a break from supporting the British GT/F3 to join the MSVR Championships at Cadwell Park.

Current G40 championship leader Sean Huyton (Academy Motorsport) brought home a pair of wins as well as a trio of fastest laps around Brands Hatch GP last month, and is looking to extend the gap from Mike Robinson (TCR) who won the first race of the weekend at Brands.

Fresh from a class win and third overall in last Sunday’s MSA Britcar Endurance race at Brands Hatch in Optimum Motorsport’s Ginetta G50, current third-placed driver Ryan Ratcliffe (Pirhana Motorsport) will be looking to build on that success following his best finish of the season (second place) at Brands Hatch last time out.

Two other drivers to keep your eyes peeled for this weekend are Optimum Motorsport’s Gary Simms, who sits fourth in the championship, as well as 2012 Ginetta G20 champion Stuart Pearson (Reflex Racing) also brought home his best finish yet as he finished in fourth during his last outing.

Gary Simms is hoping for a more successful weekend after a very difficult visit to the Brands Hatch; "The Leasedrive G40 has had some much needed TLC since Brands, and I can't wait to get back out there as I've not been here for over 4 years."

Whilst Pearson added; "After our best result yet at Brands Hatch, I hope that I've finally clicked with the car and hopefully a podium will be around the corner. I haven't been to Cadwell since the Ginetta Festival in 2008 but I don't imagine it has got any less daunting!"

Optimum Motorsport’s Thiago Calvet will be making the round trip from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil to race, and having never driven at Cadwell before, has been busy learning the track on an online race simulator.

Just a few points adrift of the coveted top 10 drivers is musician Rick Parfitt Jnr (Piranha Motorsport) who will head to Cadwell fresh from the buying his first motorhome and gigging alongside Heidi Range from the Sugarbabes!

The drivers need to check their mirrors for Ginetta Factory driver and 2011 Formula KGP champion Mike Simpson (Ginetta Cars), who will be making a one-off appearance in the championship behind the wheel of the Ginetta G40R – their ‘race car for the road’ – with the aim to prove that not only do Ginetta make world-beating race cars, but at the heart of their G40R; the ethos of speed and track-suitability remains intact.

In the G20 class, Mark Wania (Academy Motorsport) returned to the track on fine form having missed the Rockingham rounds, winning two out of the three races and finishing 10thoverall -  well above some of the G40’s - in round eight. The missed rounds cost him points, however, a strong outing at Cadwell could see him climb closer towards the top three.

G20 Championship newcomer Mark De Spong will be joining Tolman Motorsport this weekend alongside Ian Ingram, currently sitting in third behind Brian Murphy (Orwin) and Jonny Greenwood (Privateer).

With June having seen some rather dramatic racing at both Rockingham and Brands Hatch for the Total Quartz Ginetta GT5 Challenge, the forthcoming rounds at Cadwell Park look set to see some old scores settled.
