The Simpson Race Products Ginetta Junior Championship roars back to life at Brands Hatch next weekend (1 - 2 April) and we know we say this at the start of every season, but this year, it’s going to be a corker.
Winner of the Ginetta Junior Winter Series at Brands Hatch last November, Seb Priaulx leads the entries for the Class of 2017. The JHR Developments driver took Rookie pole position here on his debut last season and will be looking to hit the ground running.
The JHR Developments squad leads the way in terms of entrants too, with no less than six cars to their name for the first round. Priaulx will be joined by celebrated karter Tom Gamble who is the only other non-rookie driver in the team. Winter Series rookie champion Harry Dyson returns in a bid to cinch the overall Rookie honours, and is joined by Scholarship winner Adam Smalley and runner-up Matt Luff as well as Jenson Dineen, who contested two rounds in 2016.
Bringing the fight to JHR in terms of driver numbers is last year’s Teams Champions HHC Motorsport. They will field championship returnees Charlie Digby, Tom Wood and Jordan Collard, the latter of whom make the switch from different teams. Joining them at HHC are new faces Scott McKenna and Ruben Del Sarte.
2016 Scholarship winner and last year’s Rookie Champion Daniel Harper returns to the Douglas Motorsport team as he sets his sights on the overall title this season. He’s joined by returning driver Conor Grady.
Elite Motorsport return with Harry King, who showed moments of brilliance in the latter half of the season, producing a storming drive to take a win at Rockingham (his second of the season) and two further podiums at Brands Hatch in the final rounds of the season. He’s joined at the team by Greg Johnson.
Having joined the Junior package at the Winter Series, Fox Motorsport return with a pair of rookie racers. Third in the Rookie class in the Winter Series means Keaton Samra will be looking for plenty of champagne and silverware, whilst Finley Green joins him on the team’s roster.
Last but not least, long-time Ginetta customers Richardson Racing make their debut in the Ginetta Junior Championship. They will run a single car entry for former Junior Saloon Car Championship podium finisher, Luke Browning.
With 20 teenage racers looking to make their mark on the opening rounds of the season, make sure you don’t miss a moment of the on track action. Keep up to date with all the behind the scenes action by following GinettaCars on social media.
